The Bridegroom: Why is Christ coming back for his bride?

The Bridegroom: Why is Christ coming back for His bride?

So many people have been married. In America 50% of all marriages end in divorce for so many reasons like money problems, adultery, irreconcilable differences and so on.   I personally believe that marriages fail because the bride and groom are not selected through prayer and patience. Yes, there are some people that have been married for 50 years and never prayed a day in their lives.   That is just a situation of grace.   But all and all we need to consult the kingdom of God first before we make a decision because the Bible tells us in Matthew 6:33, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Some debate that there is a specific person born to you to be your spouse and others say that there are several people that are eligible to be your spouse and if you meet one of them you will know. The Apostle Paul let us know that everyone is not called to be married.   In marriage, Yahweh has given the couple the gift of intercourse. It is present to bear fruit and for the enjoyment and intimacy between a husband and a wife.   But Satan has perverted the gift and people who never marry engage in sexual immorality. 1Thessalonians 4:3 says, For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;”

As you may have experienced, in a new relationship there is the courtship. The first 90 days is blissful.   Once the newness wears off you make the decision if this person is worth building something concrete with. You learn their ways. You begin to be more open with them and you analyze their ways. You spend more time together. It is during this time that you build a strong foundation for the relationship to grow. At this point, you have discussed your desires and plans for the future.   You have clearly communicated your expectations for each other.   You have officially become a couple. Throughout time, you grow to be identified by others as your mate’s other half.   Once some significant time has passed, there is the hope of marriage.   Whispers of engagement fill your head. You wait for the day that he pops the question. Through sweat and concentration he buys a ring and pops the question. You accept and celebrate. You share the news with the community.   Plans are made to become one.   The wedding date is set and preparations are made.   Once the wedding day arrives, much has been put into place for that day.   You become betrothed and now you are officially one with God. Wishes of marital bliss are sent forward.

As you can see, there is a process. But there have been times when people have met someone and instantly fell in love and got married before getting to know each other. The odds of that marriage being lifelong are very slim.   But in olden days, a bride was selected for a groom and marriage came next. But, in the times of today such a marriage is does not happen.

The Old Testament is very important in the life and foundation of a Christian. It is the place where we learn of God’s existence and character. We also learn about God’s promises and relationship with man. The Old Testament is basically about the life of Israel which is the people called Hebrews. We know them as Jews.   I have taken the time to learn about the Jewish wedding. When a couple gets to the engagement stage, there is the Ketubah.   It is a prenuptial agreement written in Aramaic. As we know, it is the language in which Jesus spoke. The Ketubah is considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride When the bride and the bridegroom sign the Ketubah the groom leaves the bride and goes to his father’s house to prepare for her arrival. From this point, the bride prepares herself for the return of the groom. Once the bridegroom is finished, he returns and marries the bride and with a great feast they marry and then live in his father’s house. Does this sound familiar?   Our text for tonight comes from John 14:2 .In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Yes, I plan to get to the meat. We have discussed marriage between a man and a woman. But there is another kind of marriage.   The Old and New Testament speaks of marriage between Yahweh and his people. For Isaiah 54:4 says, For your Maker is your husband,

The Lord of hosts is His name;

And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;

He is called the God of the whole earth.

Ephesians 5:31-32 says,

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.

So clearly the Old and New Testament declares that there is a marriage between God and his people. If you sit and meditate on this, you will see that it is a priviledge and an honor for the King of Glory to want to be married to someone like you or me We are sinners, we deserve death because the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.   How can someone so perfect and so powerful that he created Heaven and Earth yet he wants to be married to us. It is true love. He proved that when he sent his only begotten son to be a sin offering for our souls now and forever more. Christ knew that his sacrifice would be received by some and rejected by others and yet he still died for everyone.   There is no greater love.

As the bride, we have engaged in some very evil activities. In the Old Testament, the children of Israel were called harlots. They whored around with other gods. The prophet Hosea was told by God to marry a harlot so that he can know what it feels like to be committed to a harlot. For a short while, Yahweh had to turn his back on Israel so that they could know that they were in violation of the covenant between them and their maker. But through love, God made this promise to Israel through Hosea…“In that day,” declares the Lord, “you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.”

In the New Testament, the church was guilty of jealousy, greed, self righteousness, adultery and other sins. Yet they were given instructions on how to repent and change their ways and were promised to be received by Christ on the day of the Lord.   As you know the church and the children of Israel are one in the same. We as Christians were grafted into Israel by Christ’s sacrifice. We are the bride. The Bible says Christ is returning to get his bride..in Ephesians 5:27 it says

So that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

The Bible says that Christ will return any day. Are you ready to meet him? Is the church of today ready to meet Christ?   Take this time and think about yourself. Yes, it is true that from time to time you will transgress. When this happens it is my prayer that we quickly see our error and repent and turn from our wicked ways. We plead the blood of Jesus and ask for forgiveness and it is over. Thank you Jesus that we don’t need a priest to go into the temple once a year and shed blood for our sin atonement. The sacrifice of Christ is once and for all. Hallelujah.   But the question is do you have iniquities. If you do, then after this service, you need to confess, and repent and seek the Lord for deliverance and you are able to do that because Isaiah 53:5 says

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. The iniquity must be dealt with because Christ is coming back for a bride without spot or wrinkle or blemish. What kind of bride are you?   If you walk around looking at other people’s sin and think just because you don’t do that you are fine. No no no, Matthew 7:2-5 says

For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

I think that we all need to take the time within the next 24 hours and ask ourselves what kind of bride are you? Do you bear fruit? Is holiness your heart’s desire. Do you desire to commune with the throne of grace. Is Yahweh’s will good and perfect in your eyes.   If Yahweh’s will is not in your heart then how can you dwell with him in the new heaven forever? Is that the kind of bride he is coming back for. There may be divorce on earth but there will be no divorce in heaven.

The Bible says in Romans 8:19-22 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[a] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

So this tells us that people are acting out because like a child..they need correction and deliverance….for example, in the news a 65 year old man is seeking a sex change…also the highest court in the land has declared that same sex marriages are legal in this country. People truly need Yahweh. The fact is that Jesus died for them too. Because they wake up every morning and receive grace…there is hope that they can change too and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. Unless, they have been turned over to a reprobate mind. That is another topic for another time.

The Bible backs this up in Luke 10:2..it says He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. There are people waiting to be changed and delivered. Yes, the harvest is plenty. This is why people are spending their last dime seeking for the next best thing. Well, the workers are few. There are many able bodied believers but they are only seeking Yahweh for their personal lives. They are not offering and testifying about Jesus.   Who will go? Who will serve? Who will work?

Revelation 19:6-9

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

In other words, the bride will labor in righteousness to clothe herself for the wedding with the bridegroom.

So, back to my initial question, why is Christ coming back for his bride? Ephesians 5:25 says

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, The answer is because he promised that he will return for her..he went into his father’s house…a house of many mansions and he prepared a place for his bride. He is a God of his word. His promises will be fulfilled. He desires to dwell amongst his people. He loves his people…he wants to wipe away every tear and remove death and suffering. He wants to reward his people for their acts of righteousness. Since the creation of the earth and the creation of Adam and Eve, God has desired to commune with his creation. But sin entered into the earth. Yes, it is true that where sin abounds grace abounds more. There will come a time when Yahweh will not tolerate the existence of sin anymore. He will call his righteous children to the New Heaven and New earth. I have read scriptures that spoke of the bride becoming one with her husband..her maker. Christ is coming back for his bride because he wants to rule and reign with her. He loves her and he longs for her. He deserves her.   Yes, he has the angels to worship him but the angels cant feel what the bride feels..and the angels cant testify what the bride testifies about. Angels were made to worship..but the bride responds to Yahweh’s love and Christ’s sacrifice by worshiping. He desires to be worship and celebrated. He wants us to respond to his call and his acts.

He is the King! Psalm 24:8 says Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.

He is the Prince of Peace, He is the friend, he is the comforter, he is the deliverer, he is the maker, he is the alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, he has all knowledge and all power and he is everywhere. He was before time. He never sleeps nor slumber…He is God! Let us praise him right now for just being God alone! Thank Jesus for your love and your sacrifice. Thank you Yahweh for your good and perfect will. Thank you taking care of us and thank for forgiving us. Thank Oh Redeemer. Blessing to your Holy Name. Amen.
